South Lake Tahoe unsure what to expect for New Year's Eve

I heard that on New Year's Eve, they close down the main street in front of the casinos at South Lake Tahoe and it turns into one big block party. true?

I've heard that the whole street gets flooded with people and it turns into a big, frat party-esque, almost out-of-control party. Is this true?
If so, has anyone experienced it before? What is it like and what is there to do? Is it sort of similar to Time Square NYE?
Thanks!

Zodiac's Message In The Misspelling of Words and The Mistakes He Made In Letters.

Zodiac meticulously hand drew his ciphers, but his handwritten letters were sometimes sloppy and often contained spelling errors. Theories about the misspelled words vary. But I think they do have a purpose.
I was looking at the dragon card message when I realized the obvious. Zodiac was meticulous with his correspondence. Nothing was included that wasn't meant to be there. Because he put in so much effort, he wouldn't have allowed for any mistakes. If you read the message you will notice that he misspells a word, only to spell it correctly a couple lines down. So he knows how to spell correctly. There are no mistakes in any of those letters. The misspellings are meant to be there because they serve a purpose.
1) The first mistake is the last word of Line 6 - "butons". Now, if you write the correct spelling "Buttons" above "butons" and cross out the matching letters in each word, you are left with a "T".
2) The next mistake you will come to isn't a misspelled word, but contains one. The Zodiac is talking about all of the buttons he sees people around San Fran wearing. One of his examples is "Melvin eats bluber". The Melvin Belli reference aside, this was a mistake. There never were any Melvin eats blubber buttons. The buttons actually said "Melville eats blubber". So, write that above his mistake and cross out the letters that occur in both words. You will get N, L, L, E, B.
3) Next is the word "considerbly" which will give you an A.
4) Then another "Buton" which will give you a T.
5) Lastly for this message, another "Melvin's", which will give you N, L, L, E.
So all together you have ( T N LLE B A T N LLE )
You can make that into several things. I first saw the last name of one of the prime Zodiac suspects, Arthur Lee Allen. Remember, Arthur Lee Allen lived with his mother, whose name was Bernice Allen. B Allen?
TELL
B ALLEN NT
BALLET or BATTLE?
It may just be nonsense. But there are obvious clues in the letters besides the ciphers. For Instance, the 13 cipher with the map of Mt. Diablo. The 13 cipher uses letters and symbols from the face of a 1968 Zodiac Watch Company Sea Wolf watch. Now, Zodiac drew the watch company's symbol (his symbol) of the circle and cross over Mt. Diablo. He then wrote 0, 3, 6, 9 and "Set to Mag. N." next to the 0. (FYI, a model of the Sea Wolf had a compass N,E,S,W dial around the face). So, the 3,6,9 are all in the correct place where they would appear on the watch face. BUT THE 0! The 0 is where the 12 o'clock should be. I think there may have been a 0 on the ring around the watch face as well, but can't remember. Now, in the same letter Zodiac drew his circle and cross with "-12". He was saying there wasn't a 12, there was a 0. Because Zodiac -12 SFPD - 0. Was this his location in relation to the SFPD and not his body count?
Also, the South Lake Tahoe letter and victim Lass. She worked at a casino there. In the 13 Cipher, you can clearly see that the first word plainly says
C A S I N × O. The message on the postcard in question said "Peek through the pines". Could he have meant, "Peak through the pines", as in mountain peak? Zodiac had said that the cipher related to radians and inches on a map. The first and last letters of this cipher are C and G. In geometry, C represents radians, G represents gradians. I am not extremely proficient in math, but I can't see where it actually does represent what he says it does. I think he was lying..Go figure.
A while back I took a different approach to the 340 or 408 Cipher, can't remember which one I used at the time, and I lost everything because that computer crashed. I have an anger issue with computers. I punch them too much, which greatly affects their performance. But all of the symbols used are actually astrological symbols that, in turn, represent specific numbers. They are symbols that are used to make a person's astrological chart, like for the moment they were born. It gets difficult tracking down the meaning of each symbol when you know nothing about astrology. But, I went one symbol at a time and replaced them with their numeric value and it actually read real coordinates of longitude and latitude. The first coordinate was a place in Northern California, near the Nevada Border, by the Scott Warner Wilderness Area. I only finished the first two lines, so I don't know if it would have lead to something of actual importance. But I think it would have been just another dead end or another puzzle.
All of the tangents, leads, and circumstantial evidence can lead you in so many different directions. I know a lot of people were very excited when they discovered the 1952 Tim Holt Red Mask comic book. The issue that featured Lady Doom and the Wheel of Death. The wheel listed ways to die, like "Death by Knife", "Death by Gun", "Death by Rope". So the Zodiac's message scratched into the car door at Lake Berryessa appears to be directly linked to the comic. People began looking at Tim Holt. But even more curious was the illustrator of the comic book, Frank Bolle. He signed his initials in the artwork "FWB" in a way that is extremely similar to one of the symbols designs Zodiac used later on (not in a cipher). Frank Bolle wrote a comic strip in 1971 called Alexander Gates. The character was an astrologist. Frank Bolle is deceased now, but the coincidences were strange.
Despite all of this, I can't get by the idea that Zodiac wasn't just one or two people, but the result of several events. The first couple killed were David Farraday and Betty Lou Jensen. I do not believe Cherri Jo Bates was a Zodiac victim, but was later claimed for understandable reasons that I will discuss. I read an interview with Betty Lou's family after the murder, and I was left with the feeling that there wasn't really any grieving. The father, Verne Jensen, struck me as odd. Verne Jensen was a career Army officer, and was working at the GSA in that area. One thing that I noticed was that Betty Lou had siblings, or at least one sibling, an older sister. After she is pictured in that interview, you don't hear of her again.
From my understanding, the relationship between Verne and his youngest daughter Betty Lou, was somewhat rocky. Betty Lou was sort of the black sheep. She wanted to date boys when she was too young, and had been in trouble with her parents before that. On the night of the murders, she was supposed to be at a school function, and I believe her parents had forbid her from going on a date. So, perhaps Verne suspected something, or saw her pull away from the diner in a boys car. But he followed them out to a remote lover's lane spot. He had been upset about how her activities made the family look. It would not have been good if she was whoring around with some boy. And kids go out to lover's lanes to have sex. It's that simple.
Instead of going to the school function like she was supposed to, she went to the diner with the boy to meet friends, then went to the lover's lane. Verne pulled up, and in a fit of rage, ordered them out of the car. One thing led to another and he shot David Farraday in the back of the head. Betty Lou was back from the car. Perhaps he had ordered her to go back to his car. But then, out of anger and fear, he shot Betty Lou. She was shot five times, opposed to David's one. There was some prejudice and a connection between her and the killer.
Six months later..Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau are parked in a dark, remote lover's lane. A car pulls up, leaves, and comes back about ten minutes later. The two can't see because of the lights from the car behind. That's why they think it's a cop. The killer fires multiple rounds into the car, killing Darlene. Michael survives.
Darlene Ferrin was a married woman. No matter how you try to spin this, the husband could not have been happy with her activities. So, perhaps he drove by and saw them parked. Or one of his friends did. They pulled in, verified it was them, went to get a gun and came back. Once again, Darlene was killed. Michael survived, but probably not on purpose. I think different ammunition was used in this killing, as opposed to Betty Lou and David.
After that, the killer got scared. If it was Darlene's husband, his only thought was that he would be the prime suspect. So he panicked. Three blocks from his house, across the street from the police station, he called the police and reported the murders. He also said he was responsible for the other two murders six months before, and hung up. Why would he do that? The first two murders were shocking, and everybody in that area knew about them. He didn't want the police to suspect him, the natural suspect in this type of murder. So he claimed to be the killer of the kids at both places. If the police went on the idea that one psycopath killer was responsible, and if the husband had an airtight alibi for the time when Betty Lou and David were killed, then he couldn't have been responsible for any of them.
I don't know if Verne wrote the first letter, or he did. But it solidified the idea that one person was responsible for the two seperate instances. Anybody who followed the case at the time would know this. So then we have the Lake Berryessa murders, which was well planned. Someone had followed the case and made himself a Zodiac costume to hide his identity. But this killing wasn't like the others. The killer tied up his victims and used a knife. And he did it in broad daylight.
He was using the Zodiac image of the killer that had been created in the news. To tie them into the others, he wrote the dates of the murders and played off the Tim Holt comic book.
Then came Paul Stine, which didn't match any of the others.
In that time, letters were written which the Zodiac established his identity, taunted the police, threatened more killings, and included cryptic ciphers to mislead the police. The Cherri Jo Bates murder became known as a possible Zodiac killing, and the writer gladly claimed credit. The more killings, the more locations, the more times, if all tied into one suspect, would essentially disqualify any of the killers (one, two, or three people). Because not one of them could have been in all those places at those times, and that would have provided an alibi. One thing that the writer of the letters could count on, was the fact that he could claim the previous murders and not worry about the real killer stepping forward and saying, "No he didn't. That was me." Because Verne would have just wanted to be forgotten about.
And handwriting analysis was not very good at the time. You will notice that some Zodiac letters are sloppy and some are neatly printed. They vary. I wouldn't doubt if the ciphers are all just nonsensical bullshit. The more murders you tie into one person, the more of an airtight alibi you create for yourself. Because, if one person was responsible for all of them, then an alibi for just one would disqualify you as the killer for all of them.
Lastly, you have to look at serial killers before and after. Serial killers kill for personal reasons. It something that is very private to them. They usually have one safe spot where they feel comfortable. Ed Gein had his farm and was somewhat of a recluse. The Green River Killer had a remote spot on the Green River. John Wayne Gacy had all of his bodies under his house. Richard NG had the bodies under a remote cabin. Ted Bundy broke this rule, but killed in the same manner as he travelled across country. But the bodies were mostly in one private location. It would probably have really bothered any of them to have their private locations discovered. None of them wrote lettter after letter claiming responsibility for killing. All of them killed by one method. The last thing any of them wanted was to be a suspect, or to be in the spotlight. None of them wrote letters to shame the police. They were all very private people. So, Zodiac strays away from this. It doesn't match the profile of a serial killer. It's not what a serial killer would do, because it's not why a serial killer actually kills.
I don't think we will ever know who the killer or killers actually were.
Thanks for reading,

Report your table minimums here (COVID Edition)

6/17 Edit: Great info guys. Keep it coming! If something changes, please let me know.
I reached out to the mods asking about putting together a post to collect minimums for craps tables in Vegas and other places.
If this post gains traction, it may get a sticky. It may also help cut down on the amount of posts asking for this info.
I'll try to keep the body of the post updated. If information is correct, let me know.
Update 6/18 - Nevada Gaming Board announced masks required at table games in Nevada. I haven't heard that this is being enforced yet.
6/30: Keep reporting, especially any of you heading to Vegas. We would love to hear what the mins are on the strip
Let me know what casino, day or night and the minimums:

Florida to San Jose California, 1964 Corvette, 1986 timeframe

Florida to San Jose in a 1964 Corvette. My buddy spent every penny he had buying it with nothing left over for a tune-up or fresh tires before we took off. (Mistake #1) He picked me up @ Hartsfield in Atlanta at 2 a.m, (long before cellphones....coordinating my late arrival was difficult) we ate at a Waffle House at 3 a.m. and off we went. It was to be all blue highways, back roads, 2-lanes, no interstates or national chain restaurants from that point forward.
A copy of “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” was to be our Bible.
We saw innumerable "See Rock City" signs and drove through the apparent fireworks capital of the free world @ the Georgia/TN border.
The damn Vette kept breaking down, first a clutch in Nashville, later a U-joint near Clarksville. Carb troubles in Nevada. I remember we saw “Weird Science” at the Clarksville theater, long before theaters were all 24-plexes. Afterwards at a bar we told a pair of local ladies we were “Location Agents” in town scouting sites for a film that was going to be shot there. Remember, this was pre-HIV... We were looking for a LAKE that the SUN came up over in the East.......\snicker, snicker**
What surprised us most were the full size satellite TV dishes behind every farmhouse across America. From nothing to 250+ channels with nothing but a check and a bootleg converter. Rural America had gotten wired. Well, dished. News, or what passed for it, was now broadcast 24 hours a day. (Mistake #2?)
Mosquitoes ate us alive at some state park in Arkansas where we’d foolishly chosen to camp rather than get a cheap motel room. We had a cassette walkman to pass the time before sleep came. The waitress at the one cafe in some lonely small town in Kansas assured us “Charlie,” the Frito Lay guy, came by EVERY DAY to refill the rack. We've joked about "Charlie" ever since.
We trailed a shiny stainless Kraft tanker truck across the loneliest highway in America, drafting for better fuel mileage, until he locked up the brakes and turned down a deserted dirt road. Trust me. There were no cows, and no dairies down that road. Must have been Area 51, or something else, cause a “milk truck” had no business being there. Fortunately we just missed creaming his rear bumper.
By this point we were getting around 7 mpg's belching black smoke , until a “19 year Chevy dealership mechanic” in a tiny town in the middle of east nowhere, Nevada, told us “No problem, one bowl on your Holley double pumper has sagged, I’ll file it flat and double gasket it and we were on our way again having barely finished lunch, back into, barely, double digit gas mileage. It was AS IF he had been placed there, just for us.
We camped among the stars in a mountaintop State Park near Eloy, Nevada, decided THIS was the place to hang out after nuclear war. You could see cars approaching from 50 miles away. Big cave, glacier full of icemelt pure water, deer everywhere. Survival city. The gubbmit was inexplicably stringing wire and fiber-optic cables into the cave. Maybe they had the same idea. A tiny casino with two slot machines and some serious alcoholics was Eloy's entertainment offering.
It seemed at every breakdown we ran into JUST the right person to fix the ‘64 for us, although the 10 pound metal glove box door continued slamming into my knees all the way to San Jose. @#[email protected]!!!!
Everywhere we went there was someone wanting to talk to us about the burnt orange, white-striped Vette. Either a parent had owned one, a neighbor or their friend had owned one, or a good friend / cousin had died crashing one. We heard, or shall I say endured, endless Vette stories. (As I do again today, it’s the price of admission).
A fourth and final flat occurred near Lake Tahoe. I was ready to pull my hair out at Dave's frugality. Stopping at endless gas stations looking for ANY used tire that would fit. We were running for home at that point, late on our schedule. I think we did the final 200 miles without a spare.
A fly fishing trip on the South Fork of the North something river outside Denver had been the hi-light of the trip, along with an impromptu color TV repair at the cabin. My buddy pulled a trout out on his first cast, having never fished before. "To catch a fish one must THINK like a fish" he had pontificated,..... and then proceeded to JUST DO IT. Rest of us were amazed. I got skunked by a noob!
A cold solder joint in an old TV was repaired with a nail, held in Vice-Grips, heated red hot over a stove burner. Instantly the football field was green once again. My companion impressed the shit out of me with that piece of wizardry.
Forty years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. We ultimately had to do about 17 miles on an Interstate somewhere in Utah. No way around. There are no road trips to be had, no stories to be gained, blasting 80mph on a superslab and eating in chain restaurants. Never have been, never will be. 2-lanes, diners, cafe's, that's where you see and talk to America.
We learned to take the road less traveled and to take ALL the time needed with everyone who had a story to tell us. We didn't take nearly enough (film) pictures. Mistake #3.

My tale of almost getting caught -- can anyone here top this?

One of the members here asked this question: Anyone wanna share stories of times SO’s spidey senses were tingling and you had to do damage control?
This happened many many years ago, when I was new to the "being married" life. My wife and I went to South Lake Tahoe and we were sitting together playing roulette. It was decent occupancy...all the tables were full, but not so crowded that I could not get a view of people around and about. I caught sight of a blonde stunner walking past the craps table, and she turned the corner, the casino lane took her toward our table. I was trying very hard not to stare, but this woman was simply one of the most gorgeous babes I've ever seen. Imagine Tiffany Coyne from "Let's Make A Deal" (yes, I go gaga for skinny blonde Barbies!) 🔥❤️
As she approached our table, I wondered if she was an escort. Or maybe she was already with someone and was just browsing the scene alone while her man was gambling somewhere else. She casually gazed over our table and then kept walking at a slow but steady pace. And then she passed us and was out of sight. She never made eye contact with me, so I figured she wasn't looking for company. But with my wife sitting right next to me, maybe she didn't want to waste her time with me? I couldn't think about what numbers I wanted to bet anymore, lol...I was struck with a huge dose of sexual uneasiness...my mind was wandering and I began daydreaming about her. These lingering thoughts can be so pleasurable in and of itself, and I was shifting so much in my seat that my wife asked me if I needed to use the bathroom! I said no and we continued to play.
10 minutes later, I could see the blonde again...walking the same route as she did before. I was going to get to enjoy another chance of this eye candy, and as I looked around at the others, it boggled my mind how nobody else was really looking at her. When people are deeply in their gambling and smoking and drinking, I suppose sex isn't high on the list! But being the nymph that I am, I could not resist. This time, I made a conscious effort to stare. And this time she made eye contact with me! She gave a very quick and sweet smile, and proceeded to keep walking. Again, she went out of sight.
At this point, I was 50% sure that she was a high-priced escort. But there were too many unknowns to be 100% for sure. I needed more clues. I was hoping that she would walk around a third time, so that I can stare at her again and perhaps give her some flirty or inviting gesture to indicate that I'm interested. But she never came by again.
After about 20-30 minutes, I didn't see her so I figured she left...maybe with somebody else or went to play slots or her room. Who knows. But my wife wanted to play something else so we grabbed our chips and left the roulette table. She went to play slots and I went to cash in the chips. Near the cashier's cage, there was a hallway that led to the restrooms. And at a short distance, I saw the blonde...and she was looking my way. I took my cash and proceeded toward the bathroom...staring at this beauty all the way. She and I locked eyes and she just blurted it out, "Hey I saw you looking at me." I thought she was going to be mad for staring, but before I could say sorry, she asked me if I wanted company! I was like... JACKPOT!!!!!! She asked if I had a room, and I said yes. I gave her the room number and told me to meet me on that floor near the elevator. But first, I needed to go tell my wife that I will be playing in the slot area too, and I made up some bullshit thing like don't come look for me because I believe it's bad luck if I have someone next to me when I'm playing the slots. She said ok.
I took the elevator to my floor and when the doors opened, there she was! Did I fucking die and go to heaven? She gave me this soft hug and her body felt so nice to hold. Whatever perfume she was wearing was smelling very nice! I gently squeezed the small of her back toward me...I made sure she could feel "my excitement" in her crotch area. She was wearing a tight thin dress, so I knew she felt me. I held her hand and led her to my room. When we got inside the room, she confessed that she and her husband had lost a lot of money at Harrahs, and she was very pissed off at him. And she asked me if I would be willing to help her out. Well, at least she wasn't an escort, but nothing was going to stop me now. This was a Tiffany Coyne lookalike...and I'm fucking this woman 👉👌💦come hell or high water!
I don't want to go into details, but there was no clock watching or hastiness. We took out sweet time, and I enjoyed every inch of her body. I was so built-up that I couldn't hold my cum in anymore...and ended up shooting it deep down her throat when she was sucking. But I was still hard as a rock and we kept going. We did several positions for the next 30-40 minutes.....then she got on top of me to ride me...but after about 5 minutes into that, my worst nightmare looked like it was going to happen! Someone was trying to open my hotel door!
The blonde suddenly stopped riding me...I pushed her off me and jumped toward the door to hold it closed! My wife was on the other side saying, "Hey! Why aren't you letting me in?" The blonde was hiding behind the side of the bed...naked and looking worried...and I motioned her to stay quiet. I cried to my wife, I can't let you in! She kept trying to use her electronic key to open the door and I kept pushing it closed again, and she shouted, "Why not?" I repeated, "I can't! Go back downstairs! I'll meet you there!" She replied, "No, I'm tired! I want to come in the room!"
I was literally feeling like this is the end...I'm gonna get caught...it's over. But suddenly, the words just came out, "I can't let you in...it's embarrassing" She asked, "What's so embarrassing??!!" I told her, "I pooped all over the floor" She asked in disbelief, "WHAT?!" I told her that I think something I ate or drank gave me diarrhea and I ended up shitting my pants before getting to the toilet, and I just want to clean it all up before letting her in. I glanced over at my blonde friend, who was trying her best to control her laughing. "Can you please go downstairs and wait until I'm done?" My wife laughed and said, "Okay, I'll be at the roulette table"
The blonde and I resumed our fucking...it seemed more special after that incident...I guess we bonded being partners in crime? I didn't want to risk my wife coming back up, so I told her let's finish this and fuck me in my favorite position... the reverse cowgirl. When I was about to cum, I pushed her off and splattered her face. We both laughed so hard about what had happened earlier, and soon thereafter, we kissed and parted ways. Wish I had asked for her number...ah, my one regret!
Then, to cover my tracks, I did the unthinkable. I squatted and took a shit on the carpet by the hotel door! I rubbed the shit into the fibers and onto the tile leading to the toilet. I did a half-ass job with the cleaning, so as to prove to my wife that I did have uncontrollable diarrhea. Fuck, the room smelled awful! But it had to be done. I got a $150 cleaning fee from the hotel later, but that was one expense I was more than happy to pay! My wife never did suspect anything, and to this day, I still think that this was the closest I ever came to ruining it with her.
Such are the dangers of this lifestyle 😬

In 1982, two women disappear together in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Five and six months later, their bodies are discovered—but it seems they died only weeks ago. What happened to Julie Schossow and Marilyn Putt?

I searched Reddit and was surprised not to see a writeup of this case, particularly when it has been mentioned with serial killers including Leonard Lake and Zodiac (although, IMO, both seem unlikely suspects). Much of the accessible coverage (e.g., from the El Dorado DA) lacks details about the circumstances of their disappearance. I apologize in advance that this isn’t the smoothest writeup, but I’m trying to weave together details from a couple of different sources into a cohesive and accurate account.
The Disappearance
Julie Schossow, 25, and Marilyn Putt, 27, were close friends. They had both worked as blackjack dealers at the Harrah's Casino in South Lake Tahoe, on the border of Nevada and California, since May 1980. Marilyn had a 5-year-old son, Jason, and they had lived in a rented house at 725 Los Angeles Avenue since October 1981. The Putts shared the house with a roommate, Colleen Gore, who often helped take care of Jason. Schossow was in between apartments and temporarily living in the home as well. Neighbors recalled there were often many cars at the house, although there weren’t wild or noisy parties there. Jason was often seen playing in the snow with other neighborhood children.
On January 12, 1982, Schossow and Putt had both worked at Harrah’s and then returned home after their shift. What is known about the intervening hours seems to come largely from their roommate, Colleen Gore. Schossow and Putt told Gore they were going “to party,” and at approximately 1 AM, a car horn sounded outside of the house and the women left.
Both victims were seen drinking together at the Rendezvous Bar inside Harrah’s and leaving a bar with some men that evening, however I do not know if this happened before they returned home or after they went out again to party. Colleen told police that sometime during the night, Schossow came back to pick up her car. Putt called 11 hours later (unclear if this is at noon on January 13, or 11 hours after Schossow returned for the car) and said they had “met a couple of rich guys” and were headed to Sacramento or San Francisco. Putt asked Gore to babysit her son.
Gore did not report the women missing for four days. This would have been approximately January 17.
On February 2, police found Schossow’s brown Honda in the Harrah’s parking lot, covered in snow and with flat tires. Police said this indicated the car had been there since the day the women went missing, January 13. (What is mystifying is why the police knew the women were missing since January 17, knew Schossow’s car was missing, and knew both women worked at Harrah’s—yet apparently didn’t check that parking lot until February 2.)
Note this interesting passage in an article from February 18, 1982, in the Reno Gazette-Journal: “The neighbors and some of the women’s co-workers from Harrah’s are reluctant to talk about Putt and Schossow. One Los Angeles Avenue woman said she was worried about retribution from the ‘two men the girls were with that night,’ and the Harrah’s workers have been ordered by casino officials not to talk about the missing dealers.”
Discovery of the Bodies
On June 6, 1982, almost six months later, the body of Marilyn Putt was discovered in the South Fork of the American River, one mile west of an area known as Chili Bar off of Highway 193. Her body was nude and had been weighted down with chains and binding material and the cause of death appears to be ligature strangulation, with the time of death being estimated at 6-8 weeks prior to her body being found.
One month later, on July 9, 1982, the body of Julie Schossow was discovered also in the South Fork of the American River, approximately 150 yards from where Marilyn Putt's body had been discovered. She had a cord tightly wrapped around her neck two times and the coroner could not rule out the fact that she may have been bound together with Marilyn Putt. The cause of death appears to be ligature strangulation, with the time of death being estimated at 6-8 weeks prior to her body being found.
Given the discrepancy between the time the women went missing and the estimated time of death, it is believed that the women were held captive for approximately three months, believed to be somewhere in between South Lake Tahoe and Placerville.
Other events or potential leads
*Notably, another woman, Debney Lynn Lobanoff, 28, went missing not long before these women in December 1981. Her nude body was found floating in the Slab Creek Reservoir on July 3, 1982, in between the discoveries of Putt’s and Schossow’s bodies and approximately 7.5 miles upstream. According to her husband, Debney left with two “biker-type” men. This case also remains unsolved.
*In 2016, the El Dorado District Attorney’s Office launched a campaign to revive this cold case and made a specific request: “If there’s anyone out there that’s directly involved with or associated with the Church of Scientology in South Lake Tahoe, you may or may not know you have information that could be helpful, so please contact us.” The DA’s website further notes, “Although not a member herself, Marilyn Putt was closely associated with several leading members of the Church of Scientology.”
*In February this year, the El Dorado DA’s office announced they had used genetic genealogy databases to identify Joseph Holt, a local real estate worker, as the man who kidnapped and killed a woman, Brynn Rainey, in 1977 and a teenaged girl, Carol Andersen, in 1979. Rainey was last seen at a bar just before her 2 AM shift at a South Lake Tahoe Casino; her body was found in a shallow grave and her cause of death was believed to be strangulation or suffocation. Andersen disappeared on her way home from a party near a South Lake Tahoe ski resort. Her body was found dumped by the side of the road a few miles away; she had been bound and strangled. Unfortunately, justice evaded Holt as he died in 2014.
Questions
--How is it that the women weren’t reported missing for so many days? January 13, 1982, was a Wednesday—it seems, especially during ski season, that it’s unlikely that both of them would have had multiple consecutive days off of work and over a weekend, but it appears that no one (Harrah’s or the roommate) reported the women missing until Saturday or Sunday.
--The quotation from the anonymous neighbor is also odd—why would they be worried about retribution? Were these two men known to locals, but perhaps not to the women? Although they had both been there for some time, they were both transplants.
--Were they held captive for months, or is there another explanation for the discrepancy in between their date of disappearance and apparent times of death?
--Why is the DA currently inquiring about the Church of Scientology?
--Holt’s MO doesn’t sound dissimilar from the circumstances of Putt and Schossow’s case except that evidence is pointing towards two men. Could Holt have had or later taken on a partner? It’s interesting to note that he worked in real estate given it appears the women were held captive.
What do you think happened to Julie and Marilyn?

Collecting California brewery bottle caps...where can I find more?

I am trying to collect bottle caps from as many CA-based based breweries as possible...I think I've bought all the individual ones currently available on eBay. Looking for recommendations on where I might be able to find more, whether for individual sale or in bulk. I even have a list of the breweries I'm still missing. I lived in CA for several years where my collection began. I'm trying to get bottle caps from 61 different breweries to fill a wooden map of CA. Currently I have 25.
I've posted in CaliforniaBeer as well, just looking for whatever recommendations are out there.

Genetic genealogy solves two 1970s South Lake Tahoe, CA murders

Parabon Nanolabs identified the killer of 27 year old Brynn Rainey, murdered in 1977, and 16 year old Carol Andersen, killed in 1979, as Joseph Holt, a real estate worker who died in 2014. Holt lived near both crime scenes. The parents of the victims have said that their daughters didn't know him. Holt was a graduate of UC Berkeley and was 27 when he moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1974. In 2017, El Dorado County, CA investigators on these two cases determined that the DNA in both cases matched and they were looking for one perpetrator.
Brynn Rainey was last seen on July 24, 1977, at a bar just before her 2am graveyard shift at the casino where she worked. She had moved to South Lake Tahoe recently and would often hitchhike to work. Her nude body was found the next month in a shallow grave in a horseriding area known as the Stateline Stables.
"Finally, after 44 years of hell and back, we have some answers," Rainey's brother Pete Garl said.
On June 30, 1979, Carol Andersen vanished on her way home from a party near a South Lake Tahoe ski resort. Her body was found a few hours later on the side of the road about 4 miles away. She had epilepsy and rarely left the house by herself.

Julie Schossow and Marilyn Putt disappeared in South Lake Tahoe, CA, in January 1982. Their bodies were recovered months later, although they were determined to be dead for only weeks.

Please note the first part of this writeup was originally posted on UnresolvedMysteries earlier this year, but locals have chimed in to clarify some points and answer some questions. More importantly, Marilyn’s sister reached out and provided new information that paints a very different story than existing media coverage, and also enlightens the El Dorado County DA's renewed call for information, which had mystified many people. If you recall the previous post you may wish to skip to the “New information” section.
On Tuesday, January 12, 1982, Schossow and Putt had both worked at Harrah’s and then returned home after their shift.
Gore told police that sometime during the night, Schossow came back to pick up her car.
This seemed odd at first, but locals have clarified there was a snowstorm around that time. It was not uncommon for cars to be buried for long periods of time, and tires can go flat. There was no sign of the missing women, however.
An article from February 18, 1982, in the Reno Gazette-Journal stated: “The neighbors and some of the women’s co-workers from Harrah’s are reluctant to talk about Putt and Schossow. One Los Angeles Avenue woman said she was worried about retribution from the ‘two men the girls were with that night,’ and the Harrah’s workers have been ordered by casino officials not to talk about the missing dealers.”
New information from Marilyn Putt’s sister
Marilyn’s sister responded to the original above and provided valuable information and her recollection of events, many of which contradict roommate Colleen Gore’s narrative.
First, her sister noted that something had gone down in between Gore and Putt. “On Monday, my sister called me and told me she had to move as soon as possible. I asked why would she need to move out of the cute cabin she was so thrilled to rent. She told me that I wouldn’t believe what her room mate and her boyfriend are doing. She wouldn’t give me details over the phone because they might hear, just that it was very bad and she wanted no part of it. She told me that she no longer trusted her room mate to watch her son and just needed me to come help her move on Wednesday. She didn’t even want them to know she was moving.”
The women went out on Tuesday night and were last seen on Tuesday night. Marilyn's sister said that their mother had called Marilyn and talked to her at her home around midnight on Tuesday. It seems important to clarify when eyewitnesses saw Putt and Schossow out--Tuesday night, or in the early hours of Wednesday.
No media reports that I came across suggested that Gore was behaving in a shady manner, although it was odd why it took four days for her to report the women missing—particularly given Gore was taking care of Putt’s son. The fact that Putt would come back to retrieve her car (after allegedly leaving at 1 AM according to Gore’s account) never made much sense—but it seems the only source for this claim is Gore.
Marilyn’s sister drove in from Sacramento on Wednesday to help her sister move: “When I arrived Wednesday morning, I had my boyfriend and another couple with me to help. When I knocked on the door, her room mate answered but only opened the door about an inch. She said my sister had gone to work and she was indisposed.”
Marilyn’s sister went to Harrah’s, found out Marilyn didn’t show up for her shift, and searched for her sister at Harrah’s. Unsuccessful, she called Gore. “We hung out there for a bit and finally I called the room mate back and told her the situation. That’s when the room mate told me that my sister had just called to tell her to watch her son because she had spent the night with some rich guy and now they were going to San Francisco. I was so confused! Why would she go to San Francisco when she wanted to move and she knew I was coming? Why did she leave her son with the person she just told me she didn’t trust especially when she knew I was coming up and she could just hand him off to me. Why would she take off with someone she barely knew? None of it made sense.” Indeed, the inconsistency in the stories makes Gore seem very suspicious. Why the sudden change in stories?
Marilyn’s sister returned to the house, where Gore let her in. Marilyn’s sister found all of Marilyn’s stuff packed up in boxes in the closet in her room, including an overnight bag. If Marilyn had come back to pick up her car before running off to San Francisco, why wouldn’t she have picked up her pre-packed overnight bag? Gore was convincing, however, and Marilyn’s sister went back to Sacramento.
Marilyn’s sister continued checking in with Gore. It wasn’t until she threatened to drive to Tahoe and file the missing person report herself that Gore finally reported it to the police.
One last thing Marilyn’s sister pointed may be a clue as to why the 2016 revival of the case by the DA asks about Scientologists: “As a side note, Marilyn’s room mate used to live with Marilyn’s babysitter until there was a falling out and she moved in with Marilyn. The babysitter, the room mate and the babysitter ‘s ex husband all belonged to the Church of Scientology.”
Marilyn’s sister ended her story on a heartbreaking note: “There are many more unexplained details to this case but I’m sure none of it will make a difference now. I have come to the agonizing conclusion that we will never get the whole story as probably many of the people involved may have died themselves or have no memory left.”
One small piece of good news in the wake of this tragedy: Marilyn’s sister reported that her son Jason “has managed to overcome all and leaves a happy and successful life.”
I think the sister's information puts an entirely new perspective on this case. What do you think happened to Julie and Marilyn?

My Idea for GTA 6

It'll be HUGE.
How huge? It'll have the biggest map in the series, encompassing the whole state of San Andreas (including Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, and a new city called San Joseph, based on San Jose), with locations you can access by taking a plane to, including Liberty City, Vice City, Carcer City, North Yankton, even locations north and south of the border.
This time, there will be SIX protagonists, these being Michael, Franklin, Trevor, Niko, Taliana Martinez, and an aged, HD Universe version of Tommy Vercetti.
We'll also find out what has happened since GTA V:
We also get to see how the NPCs are doing:
So, to recap:
So, whaddaya think?

I Fucked my Friends Wife

I was 22 and in my last year of college. I only went to school a few days a week and got a job part time at a ski area in Lake Tahoe . I loved to ski and it was the perfect situation. I made many new friends among them a couple, Kris and Phil. They would finish the day at a local bar at the bottom of the mountain. I would occasionally go in and have a beer myself.
On occasion I would see Kris there by herself. Phil would occasionally go out of town and leave Kris home,She was very friendly and we would talk. As the winter progressed we would meet up on these evenings and have a drink, go dancing and enjoy each others company.
I knew she was married and felt a little odd but we both enjoyed our time together and I remained a gentleman and told myself we were just friends. As spring came I learned that Phil was going to be gone and knowing Kris liked music I bought tickets to a show in a south shore casino for an act that I knew she liked. The afternoon came and I met Kris at the bar after work and mentioned that I had these tickets and invited her to go. To my delight she accepted. We left the ski area and started the drive to South Shore. On the way we drove by their apartment and we stopped in where Kris changed.
It was starting to snow lightly as we drove down and we got there in time for the show. The show was great, I could see Kris enjoyed it very much. We listened and had a few drinks. As the evening went on we wound up sitting closer and closer in the booth until we were nestled into each other. It was a very nice feeling. When the show was over though she pulled back as if coming to the realization that she was married and we walked to the car.
The storm had intensified while we were inside and the streets were covered in snow as we left. A few miles down the road going home I turned to go up the west shore and saw that the gate was down closing the road as happened when a big enough storm would hit. To go around the lake the other way would take hours especially in a storm but knowing this I turned around to go that way. The storm was really starting to get worse as we drove and by the time we got back to the casinos it was nearly a white out. I suggested we stop at one of the casinos and wait the storm out for awhile.
We sat at a bar and had a drink and talked. I really enjoyed Kris and it was like bonus time with her. After an hour or so It was obvious that the storm was not going to let up and I suggested we get a room for the night and to my relief she agreed. We had waited a bit too long and by the time I got to the desk the only room available was a single King sized bed. We looked at each other and decided we could make it work as we just needed a warm place to sleep so we took it. We got into the room about 11 and we a little tipsy from the drinks so we sat around talking.
Kris and Phil had been married about 4 years and she confided in me that the thrill had gone out of it. She very much liked the romance and intimacy. As with all hotel rooms seating was limited,Kris had positioned herself on the bed sitting up against the headboard and I was sitting on the edge.
Up until this time I had always remained a gentleman but on an impulse I moved up next to her and put my arm around her. To my surprise she seemed very comfortable with it. Then I leaned over and kissed her. She kissed me back! after that we wrapped ourselves in each other and kissed and caressed each others bodies.
After a time I don't know how it happened I had Kris's shirt and bra off and was kissing and caressing he breasts. She moaned softly enjoying this. I had also taken my shirt off and she was rubbing me. Excited I moved off the end of the bed, grabbed her legs and pulled her flat on it. I then unbuttoned her pants and with one motion pulled them off along with her panties.
This was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. Kris's was laying on her back with one leg straight and one bent showing all of her beauty. The light from outside reflected off of her beautiful round hips, firm round breasts and creamy white skin and was breath taking. While still standing I took the rest of my clothes off exposing my now erect penis. When she first saw it her eyes got big and she remarked that while she was used to the length the girth of it was much larger than she had seen.
With that I moved to the bottom of the bed. There I moved up and as Kris opened her other leg I moved in between them. I stopped at her vagina and started kissing her thighs moving closer and closer until I had my mouth in between her legs. She opened a little wider as I started licking ans sucking on her Labia. She moaned as I sucked them into my mouth. I moved to her clitoris and started to suck and swirl my tongue and she threw her head back and moaned loudly.
After a time I continued up her body kissing her belly and then breasts until I was on top of her. I tried to enter her but was having no success, then she reached down and pushed the lips apart with my penis and guided me into her vagina. Her wetness let me slip into her easily but my thickness made her cry out in pain. She had never had such size and was not ready for it. I kept pushing deeper but being a horny 22 year old my eagerness resulted in me coming when I had only penetrated her half way. I pulled out and came on her belly and loin. We laid there together foe a while. I was embarrassed to have lasted for so little time. maybe a minute. But Kris had other ideas. She moved down my body slowly stroking and kissing me and put her mouth around me. the size made it hard for her to get me into her mouth but before long I had another erection.
This time Kris climbed on top and took me inside her. Her tight vagina was exhilarating and she slowly squeezed me into her. I laid still letting her go at her speed and eventually I was fully inside her. This took some time. She then started pulling me in and out of her occasionally settling fully down on me and rolling her hips. Her hands were braced on my shoulders and her long brown hair dangled in my face. I lasted longer this time, maybe 10 minutes until I stiffened and tried to lift her off but she held on and told me to come in her. It was wonderful.
The women I had been with before I had used condoms or pulled out and this felt fantastic shooting myself deep inside her. After this we cuddled and eventually fell asleep in each others arms.
Early in the morning just before dawn we both stirred. We laid together for a time and then without a word Kris rolled onto her back and let her legs spread and I rolled over on top of her. She then took me and guided me inside once more. This time the hurry was gone. I slowly entered her and let her get used to my size. She relaxed and knowing I was going slow gave herself to me. Soon I was deep inside her and we were moving in unison. We fell into a deep rhythmic trance that seemed to last for hours. Finally Kris's breathing started to speed up and soon the muscles in her vagina started to contract. She was tight to begin with but during the contractions she gripped me tighter than I thought was possible. With this happening I could no longer control the urge and I came with her. Pumping a huge amount deep inside her. We laid there for quite awhile getting our breath back and basking in the afterglow. It was around 6am now and we had to think about getting home.
We showered together washing each other between kisses and then dressed. When we got outside we saw that the storm had broken in the night and the plows had been busy. The sun shined bright and the spring air was crisp but the snow was already starting to melt off of the road. On the drive back we talked about the show and how much fun it had been. When I got to her apartment I let her out with a quick kiss and she picked up her car and we both went to work.
In the following days my mind would constantly wander back to the time with Kris. I wanted her again in the worst way. A few weeks later I was in the bar with a group of friends including Kris and Phil. It was late and I excused myself as I had paperwork to do that wouldn't wait. I was in the office when I saw a silhouette in the opaque glass of the main door. It was Kris.
She had left to go to the bathroom. I let her in and she went to the couch in the waiting area and started to undress. There was little light but soon I could see her naked outline clearly. She moved over to me and kissed me while she unbuttoned my pants. Soon I was undressed also. We moved to the couch and without a word she sat back against the cushions and spread her legs. It was clear that she wanted me inside her.
Without hesitation I moved in between her and guided myself into her. She had been waiting for this and her vagina was sopping wet. My first stroke in picked up her creamy white juices and when I pulled back I was completely covered in her. I thrust deep inside again reveling in the tightness of her but she was so slippery at the same time. Trying to get deeper I took her legs and pushed them up against her bare breasts. Now there was nothing stopping me from completely burying myself in her. I could see in the dim light her expression of pure pleasure as I stroked deep inside her. All too soon a wave came over me and I stiffened and pumped a huge load into her. Shortly she got up and said she had to get back as Phil would wonder where she was.
I stayed for a short time and went back to the bar. Kris and Phil were still there and we would occasionally steal glancing smiles at one another.
The next day Kris told me that Phil had taken her home and had sex with her. He had remarked how wet she was. She said she toyed with the idea of telling him he was getting sloppy seconds but thought better of it.
Phil went out of town one more time and Kris spent the night with me. I asked her if she would stay with me rather than return home after the season ended. She said she would think about it. A few weeks later the season came to a close and they moved for the summer. They didn't return the following winter. I would hear from time to time news of them but I never saw her again. Give me your comments.

Tahoe Summer 2018 Event Calendar

A lot is going on in Tahoe during the summer, so here’s a continuously updated listing of events happening around the lake! Feel free to comment below with any updates, I will periodically edit the post with new events that folks send me. See revision notes at the bottom of this post.
Things not included: shows that happen every week all year around (like the Improv at Harvey’s or the Magic Fusion at The Loft), free weekly shows at venues like the CBC and Alibi Truckee (check their event calendars for those!), and children’s camps/classes. I reserve the right to not include every event folks send; a truly comprehensive list would quickly become useless with too many items on it, so I will be a little selective.

Training

This was my first half, and I've been training for a little over 6 months! I signed up right after my first 10k in October 2018, and have worked hard to build a good base, and have started doing workouts and long runs. My longest run beforehand was 14 miles, a couple weeks ago. Most training plans I've seen stop have the longest run at 10-12, but I couldn't leave that much up to chance, I needed to know that I could do it. Both of my 13.1+ runs were just over two hours, with stops to open Gu, because my long runs were done in cold weather and I could never open the packet with cold hands while running.
I really really wanted to run this whole race without stopping, since I got majorly sick in March and it's taken me until now to get my fitness/mental game back up to where it was. Walking would be tolerable, but no stopping!

Pre-race

I'm lucky enough to have access to a cabin in South Lake Tahoe near the race, and a bunch of friends and I made a weekend of it. I had two friends doing the walk/jog of this race, and we went to the expo, then made lovely carb-heavy tacos, and had a nice beer that I had been saving, did a high-altitude shakeout run, and went to bed early.
I got up super early the morning of, ate the same thing I eat before every long run (banana + peanut butter, English muffin, protein bar), since my friends had a start time of 7 for walking, went to the Hard Rock Casino and caught the early shuttle (to simplify car pooling). I got to relax at the start line for about an hour and a half, drank some coffee, made sure I wouldn't have to take any bio breaks during the run, and hung out with some friends from local running groups.

Race

I made a conscious effort to not look at my Garmin while running, for as long as I could, and run by feel.
Miles 1-3 were downhill from Spooner Summit on highway 50, and I had planned to push it a little and stick with the 1:50 pacer, but I felt great and looooove downhill, so I went ahead of him and was running mid-7 minute per mile. I had a giant smile on my face, especially when I rounded a corner and got the first stunning view of Lake Tahoe!
Somewhere in the mile 4 or 5 area it starts becoming more rolling hills, with a few big climbs and big drops. The course went through Cave Rock, a tunnel in a giant rock formation, and that was AMAZING! I had a Gu around mile 7, just after a particularly rough hill.
Rolling hills continued though the rest of the race, with one huge awful one called round hill at mile 9.5. I power walked up it in an effort to conserve some energy, since I'm hella tall and my power walk is pretty damn fast so it didn't cost me much time. Gu number two was while walking, I was starting to really feel this race.
After that hill, the course left the highway and went on a nice paved path near a golf course, it was beautiful and mostly in trees, so it was nice and shady. Even though I'd been training pretty consistently, I was getting really tired around mile 11, and very ready to be done.
At mile 12, the course left the path, and went uphill via some side streets and wound around until you run behind the Hard Rock. All I wanted was to see that damn finish line, and not run uphill anymore - the second it came into view, with the clock saying 1:49:24, I all out sprinted to the finish. The 1:50 pacer had passed me on the last hill but crossed right in front of me, and we high-fived right as I crossed, at 1:49:38. My husband was waiting for me right after I got my medal, and I burst into happy tears. He had brought me a bottle of my favorite electrolyte drink, and we checked out all the booths while waiting for our friends to finish.

Post-race

I drank some beer and barbecued a tritip and drank more beers. There was much gnashing of teeth because Strava fucked up and didn't record, and won't import it from my Garmin! Today I went and soaked my legs in freezing cold Lake Tahoe, and now I'm thinking about my Ragnar Trail Ultra next month and looking into training plans for CIM in December!
